Down - Things You Should Know

Down is the lightest, most effective insulator on earth. Soft, fluffy puffs of down grow under the breast feathers of geese and ducks keeping them cozy warm in winter and comfortably cool in summer.

DOWN

Fill power is the primary measure of down quality. It measures the fluffiness of down by measuring how much space an ounce of down fills. The bigger the puff, the higher the fill power. Bigger down puffs are fluffier, trap more air and insulate better. And, bigger down puffs are stronger so they last longer. Pacific Coast’s exclusive Hyperclean® process ensures that our down is not coated with heavy additives or impurities. Our down starts out fluffy and stays fluffy longer.

FILL POWER

Feathers are the durable, springy neighbor of down on geese and ducks. Feathers have a quill that give them a supportive spring while still providing a soft caress only nature could invent.

FEATHERS

Thread count is the number of threads per square inch of fabric. Higher thread count fabrics are more luxurious, softer and durable. However, higher thread counts do not assure “downproof” fabrics. Through our tighter weaving and special finishing techniques, Pacific Coast’s fabrics are always the most leakproof on the market, no matter what the thread count.
